Edward Richards won $1 million in the “Billion Dollar Extravaganza” instant ticket game and said he was inspired to buy the ticket after being blessed with holy water at Easter Mass on Saturday, April 8, according to the Massachusetts State Lottery.

Richards bought the ticket at Richdale Convenience, located on West Main Street in Georgetown. He said he would not have gone to that specific store had he not gone to the Easter service.

His daughters, Keri Richards and Dawn Meoli, helped him claim his prize. Richards chose to cash out his big win and received a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.

He plans on using his newfound cash for home improvements and installing a swimming pool.

Richdale Convenience in Georgetown will receive a $10,000 payout for its part in the big win.

The “Billion Dollar Extravaganza” game is the first $50 ticket game in the history of the Massachusetts State Lottery.
